Please join me in congratulating Brendan Harrison on signing with Bryn Mawr College. I know you will all agree that we could not be prouder of Brendan and all of her successes. I wanted to share the below with each of you and just say...What an amazing young lady!
Facts I'd like to share ... Brendan is a leader, a great student and athlete, an amazing supportive friend and teammate, and a loving and fantastic daughter and granddaughter. Her academic successes have allowed her to be offered over $376,000 in combined academic scholarships and grants from several collegian institutions (e.g., University of Mary Washington, Hofstra University, Mount Saint Mary’s University, Mercyhurst University, Hobart and William Smith Colleges, Bridgewater College and Mary Baldwin College) and she has chosen Bryn Mawr College.
Brendan will be a member of Bryn Mawr’s Women’s Basketball Program while pursuing a double major in Russian Language and Literature and Arabic Language and Literature. Brendan’s career goals are to become a Linguist in support of a federal agency.
A little background on Brendan…when most people learn of Brendan’s academic success and prowess, they seem shocked. On the other hand, her longtime coaches and friends know she is the strong silent type and do not take her quiet demeanor for a weakness. They affectionately call her the “Humble Warrior”, “The Thinker”, “A Quiet Storm”. Someone always willing to lend a hand, provide support and set the tone. A True Effective Leader!
We wanted to share some of Brendan’s “Parting Words” and “Words of Wisdom” as she plans for her upcoming graduation and getting ready for college in the fall…
Parting Words: First, I want to thank The Lord, Jesus Christ for all of the many blessings He has given me and will continue to give me in the future. I also want to thank my parents and extended family for helping me to become the person I am. I also want to extend a special thanks to Coaches, Clinton Simmons, Anthony Harris, Anthony Melvin, Michelle Austin, Tiffany Lockett and Armando Jimenez and the Virginia Select AAU Basketball Organization for training and always supporting me. To all of my coaches and teammates, thank you for pushing me to become the best Me I can be on and off the court.
Words of Wisdom: Remember throughout life you will face difficulties but it’s not the difficulties that define who you are. It’s how you come back from them. No matter how hard the challenge or how large the obstacle, if you believe in yourself and put in the work you can achieve any and everything you've hoped for.
Brendan will be signing with Bryn Mawr College on Wednesday at 2:30 p.m. at C.D. Hylton High School. Please join me in congratulating Brendan!
